2012 President's Letter

            We have just concluded the 2011 season with the LANCO Annual Awards Banquet at the Lancaster Host. While I was not able to attend I am told that it was once again a great event. Many thanks to all those that help put on an event of that magnitude.


On the track, 2011 had some great racing action. Many thanks to Mike Freed and crew for stepping up to the plate and giving us an awesome racing surface when the club needed a track prep crew after Roger Martin sustained serious burns just prior to the start of the racing season. We are all grateful that Roger has made great strides in recovering from his injuries.



2011 was a tough year as the club lost two long time supporters, Dick Greenawalt and Mark Geib. They will be missed dearly. I want to personally thank all of the LANCO members who took time out of their personal lives to search for Mark. The turnout was overwhelming and goes to show that the LANCO family can be counted on when a member is in need.


To our volunteers: Thank you for your hard work and dedication, without you LANCO could not be one of the best micro-sprint racing venues in the country. For our driver and owner members, I want to thank you for your past and continuing support of LANCO and for putting on some of the best weekly racing, anywhere.


Congratulations to our 2011 point champions: Jason Swavely (Sportsman); Jesse Maurer (125); Jared Esh (4 Stroke); Nick Skias (270); Heath Hehnly (600). I wish the best of luck to all drivers in their pursuit of the 2012 points championship.


For the upcoming 2012 season, LANCO has made a few changes to the racing schedule. Micro Mania will return but as a huge 2-day show on June 30 and July 1 as the start to the PA 600 Speedweek. On July 7, we will have a regular show with the exception of the 600cc class. The Labor Day Shootout in 2012 will be broken out into two complete shows, with the winged 600cc, Sportsman and 4 Stroke classes running on Saturday, September 1. On Sunday, September 2, the popular wingless 600cc sprints will be joined by the 270cc and 125cc classes. Also, on April 28, LANCO will hold a Fan Appreciation/Pack the Track Night offering free general admission for the night’s racing activities.


We have recently completed the first phase to move the 3rd turn exit gate. The first phase included the groundwork necessary to move the exit gate to a new location, off the end of the backstretch. The second phase, which includes the guardrail and fencing work, are hoped to be completed in the spring but will depend if funds are available. Any help with the funding of the second phase would be greatly appreciated.

Rules Changes: The following is a consolidated list of the rule changes that were passed for the 2012 season. Please see the website to view the updated 2012 competition rules and car specs. The 2012 rule changes are identified in the documents.

  • General
    • Drivers who are called for a jump start will receive a warning on the first offense in a race and will be sent to the rear of the field if they are called for a second jump start in the same event
    • Alternates will be used if a qualified car cannot take the initial green
    • Consolation events will be checkered prior to the full number of laps are run if the number of cars running is equal to or less than the number of cars that will qualify
    • Wait time for protests is now 10 minutes
  • 4 Stroke Only:
    • Stock bore and stroke, any work on head or valves allowed. The existing modified engine owners may run with the 125 class


Membership Application and Fees: The membership application has been updated for 2012. Changes of car # ownership to club records will need to pay the $25.00 car number fee. We have added the Financial Responsibility form to the membership application. The Financial Responsibility form only needs to be completed one time for each car # and needs to be turned in before the car will be permitted to be inspected. There are no changes in the membership fees from 2011. Memberships are $35.00 if received between January 1 and March 15, memberships received after March 15 will be $50.00. Membership cards for drivers and owners will not be handed out until inspection day.


Membership Obligation: Each car in each class must complete a membership obligation prior to the car being inspected. If you received 2012 LANCO calendars, you must turn in the cost of the calendar money as your membership obligation. If you did not receive calendars the following options are available to complete the membership obligation:

  1. Participate in a 4 hour work party. Work Party dates and times will be determined by the weather and will be posted on the LANCO website.
  2. Remit payment of $120.00 (work party fee) to the club.


Inspection: Inspection will be held on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Bud’s Spring Service which is located at 1420 Arcadia Road in Lancaster. NO INSPECTION=NOT ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FIRST POINTS RACE. The inspection checklist will once again be posted to the website. To reduce the number of re-inspections, please review the checklist to ensure that you have the best opportunity to pass inspection. Re-inspection will be held on Saturday April 7th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. CARS MUST BE RACE-READY FOR INSPECTION


Practice: Saturday April 7th. Rookie orientation will be held from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Rookie only practice will be from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Open practice for all club members will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.


First Race: Saturday April 14th. Warm-ups at 5:00 PM. Heat races will begin at 6:00 PM.


Mall Show Dates:  Reading Fairgrounds Mall Race Car Show; February 19-25. The club has space for 10 cars. Contact Chris Snyder to reserve a spot. Please keep in mind that our monthly General Membership Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month starting promptly at 7:30 PM. During the off-season the meetings are held at the West Earl Fire Company in Brownstown and during the race season at the track.
