The Mark Geib Memorial Race, scheduled for Saturday, September 8 at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, was postponed by weather to this Saturday, September 15.
This will be the 2012 season finale` at the Clyde; the point champions in all five weekly Micro-Sprint divisions will be determined this Saturday.
The Mark Geib Memorial honors the memory of the former driver, crew chief, and all-around good guy - Mark was always one of the most popular people in the Clyde Martin pit area - who was tragically swept away by raging flood waters during Tropical Storm Lee last September. His body was found several days later, after an intensive search by a group that included dozens of his Lanco racing friends.
Thanks to a Bake Sale and other fund-raising activities organized by Lanco members and Mark's wife, Donna, club members will not have to pay a car entry fee this Saturday. Non-members will only be charged a $5 entry fee for their cars.
Close to $900 in lap money was also collected for this week's Mark Geib Memorial; the lap money will be paid to the drivers who lead laps in each of the five divisions...the 600cc, 270cc, 125cc, Sportsman, and 270cc Four-Stroke Micro-Sprints.
Donna Geib will drive her No. 82 - the car that was wrenched by her late husband - as the pace vehicle for four of the feature races. the only one she will not pace is the one in which she competes...the 25-lapper for the 270cc Four-Strokes.
It will be an emotional night filled with tributes to one of Lanco's finest, and the drama of the point races will make this one of the biggest season-ending events ever held at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway.
